There is something about New York’s energy that has always scratched my brain in just the right way. Whether it is the sound of sirens echoing down the avenues, the rush of people on the subway all trying to get where they need to go, or the calming ambiance of the cafés and restaurants that decorate the city streets, New York has been calling to me for my entire life. This summer, I finally got to answer.

I was incredibly excited to be offered an opportunity to join SuperAwesome as an intern on the Creators team, and the last couple of months have been nothing short of amazing. The team’s warmth, openness, and willingness to teach and mentor me have made every day of this internship special. Everyone has taken the time to meet with me one-on-one so I can learn more about their roles, while also making me feel included in the team’s day-to-day life. They invite me to lunch, include me in meetings, and make space for my voice to be heard when I have an idea.

Feedback is always shared with compassion and enthusiasm, and my colleagues offer support, suggestions, and new perspectives that strengthen my work. The feedback never feels critical in a discouraging way. Instead, it feels thoughtful, constructive, and genuinely encouraging.

One of my main responsibilities has been creating and distributing a weekly trend report, which involves conducting in-depth market and trend research, developing a polished slide deck, and collaborating with our legal team before the report can be shared. After sending out my first report, I immediately received encouraging messages and thoughtful feedback, which I incorporated into the next edition to make it even stronger.

As the project has grown, members of other departments have taken the time to meet with me, share their perspectives, and explain how the reports could be even more useful for their teams. Seeing something I created become stronger through collaboration has been one of the most rewarding parts of my internship.

Another major project this summer has been helping manage the social media pages that promote the team and our work. Some days, that means finding content we can recreate or use as inspiration and sharing it with the team on Slack. Other days, it means shepherding the production itself – from filming and editing to revising and securing legal approval.

One of my videos, filmed on an unassuming day in the office, unexpectedly went viral! My Elle Woods audio lip-sync hit almost 11K likes and got over 172K views. It was certainly a nice surprise to see when logging on one morning…

Creating social content has quickly become one of my favorite responsibilities, given how relevant social media is to my generation. It has been exciting to take something I interact with every day as a consumer and begin to understand it from a strategic marketing perspective.

When asked why I was initially interested in marketing, I often explain that I am drawn to the work’s tangible impact. In creator marketing, ideas do not remain abstract. We get to see campaigns come to life, track their performance, analyze the results, and use those insights to shape future campaigns and support other work across the company.

Working with creators and talent has also shown me how much strategy goes into the partnerships people see online. Before a creator becomes part of a campaign, our team carefully vets them to make sure they meet our standards and align with the values behind the work we are creating.

This experience has helped me understand that creator marketing is not simply about finding someone with a large following. It is about finding the right voice, the right audience, the right message, and the right fit for the story a brand wants to tell.

Attending the Creator Economy Live East conference in New York (dubbed the ‘ultimate influencer marketing event’) was another highlight of my internship, and I am incredibly grateful that my team brought me along. I had the opportunity to network with experts from across the creator industry and learn more about where the creator economy is heading.

I also interviewed several people at the conference, asking for their perspectives on the power of creator communities, their predictions for the future of creator marketing, and what they have learned from working within the kids’ and teens’ creator space. Hearing directly from people shaping the industry made the experience especially valuable.

I came into this summer excited to learn about creator marketing, but I did not realize how much I would also learn about collaboration, confidence, communication, and myself. As my internship wraps up, I am leaving with a deeper understanding of the creator marketing industry and a stronger sense of the kind of work I hope to continue pursuing.

Most importantly, I want to keep sharpening my creative instincts, asking thoughtful questions, contributing ideas, and learning from the people around me. I am incredibly grateful to the SuperAwesome Creator Marketing team for giving me the opportunity to do all of those things this summer – and for making New York feel even more special than I imagined it would.
