The Battle of L.A.

On Feb 24 1942, an giant UFO hovered over L.A. Photos were taken, and news agencies reported on it. All this of course, while the US military carried on with an all out attack on the object. You would think this story would be much more popular than it is.

The youtube video has pictures and one of the original audio news feeds from that night.

Here is a link to the Wiki page on the Battle of L.A. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Los_Angeles

Our New Slime Mold Masters

Pretty interesting story about how crazy Japanese scientists tapped the untamed fear of slime molds to remote control a six-legged robot. Awesome. This can be so handy!

What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

terminator_robot.jpg

I read about this a few months ago and it looks like they are still at it. Nothing to worry about really.. they are just growing rat brains in dishes and teaching them how to fly fighter planes. All this so that the rat brain can go fly the jets all by themselves. Sounds perfectly harmless.

Behold, 50 Years of Space Technology!

nasa_moon550.jpg

I have about had it with NASA. We landed on the moon over 35 years ago. We have had plenty of time to kill aliens, steal their technology, or even roll up our sleeves and invent someething. Look what 3.5 decades has gotten us.

Oh and love the part about how it won't be ready until 2018.

Space Elevator..for real?

elevator8.jpg

Next to building giant rings around the earth or even the sun, sci-fi is filled with kooky ideas of building eleveators into space. Why take a rocket if you could just ride an elevator? Seems like a good idea for novels and tv shows, but now some smarty pants engineers are actually going to build one.

OMFG! Soon We WIll be Immortal!

An Austrailian team of super scientists have created a strain of mice that can regenerate any limb or organ with the exception of the brain. They have chopped off toes, burned off parts of their hearts and even snipped the optical nerve. All these injuries repaired themsleves. I can't wait to take that pill!

I just hope those mice don't escape, they would be super hard to kill.

The Movie Industry...Not so Dumb?

I haven't bought an actual CD since 1999ish. Partly because I think paying $20 for 2 good songs, a useless case, and an even more useless insert is a waste of money, and partly because the music is suxor I do, however, purchase more than I should legally from iTunes. I think you should pay for good music, or at least the good musicians should get payed.

Movies are a little different. For the most part they all are suxor. I have been to maybe 5 movies in the past 5 years. I have stayed away from theatres because its more fun to watch at home in comfort and 5.1. But mostly because I wouldn't pay $20 to sit in an unconfortable chair for 2 hours and watch some shitty movie whilst some a-hole won't stop talking as he's kicking my chair.

Of course the internet is to blame for all of this. THIEVES all around the world are stealing shitty music and crapier movies instead of paying for it. OR maybe people have just decided that if they are going to watch shitty movies, they can wait and get it from NetFlix and watch at home.

The RIAA of course thinks that all this is crazy talk, but it seems that the movie makers may actauly realize that their movies suck. Mr. Shaye, chairman of New Line Cinema, agrees, "In previous years, you could still count on enough people to come whether you failed at entertaining them or not, out of habit, or boredom, or a desire to get out of the house. You had a little bit of backstop."

According to the article, it doesn't see, like making better movies is the answer, but rather re-adjusting their bisiness models to depend more on DVS sales and less on theatre revenue.

Intellegent Design..an idiot's answer to everything

The freakin' creationists are slowly winning. Unbelievable as it may be (to me anyway) they are using science to support their claims. This time, however, they aren't saying that G-d created everything. For all they know aliens, albeit super-duper-god-like aliens, could have created everything. For a real treat in logic please read the article.

So it seems we are all gonna die :(

This is a follow up to a previous post where I described an uncertain path of a GIANT asteroid. Well it seems that our old friend asteroid MN4 is back on track towards us. It turns out that the scientists tracking it had ruled out collision.....but then realized they forgot to add EARTH's GRAVITY into the equation. So sad that they are all we have to save us.

Move along...nothing to see here

So I was deleting old bookmarks this morning and I came across an article from December 2004. It’s a harmless article issued by NASA describing an asteroid 400 meters long that has a 1 in 300 shot of destroying the world in 2029. I googled the heck out of it this morning to get an end-of-the-world update, but the MAN has removed all traces from the Internet!
